Redbridge in Bloom

Mrs Dye really enjoyed taking 4 of our pupils to Valentines Mansion last Thursday evening. They were there to collect our prize as a finalist in this years Redbridge in Bloom - we came 3rd - with our sensory plants in KS1 Superhero and KS2 Minion.  The children met the Mayor and enjoyed a small buffet.

Well done John Bramston!

The children discovered this morning that something very strange has been happening around the school, especially once Mrs Dye goes home for the evening.

At first, we thought it might have been Bramston, our school dog.  After careful consideration, we thought it could have been all the Christmas elves that have been hanging around the school recently.

But, on closer inspection, it seems that there was another group who were up to no good.  Take a look.

Merry Christmas everyone.  May you have a peaceful and joyful holiday period!

Thank you to Emma Richardson,
who came in to John Bramston to lead assembly and some Art workshops.

Emma is an ex-John Bramston pupil who has a promising career ahead of her in Art and Design.

Emma wowed the pupils in assembly with an exhibition of her amazing, photo-realism work.

KS2 children enjoyed their drawing workshops
and learnt some great tips on how to draw a portrait.

We look forward to seeing Emma in our school again soon.
We also look forward to seeing some great art from our pupils.

Hainault primary school pupils win prizes for war diaries

An exciting celebration of curriculum learning has taken place at John Bramston Primary School in Hainault.

To celebrate their writing achievements and further generate real-life links, the two winners of a contextual diary competition were able to read out their diaries to the rest of the school during an assembly, attended by Wes Streeting, Ilford North MP, and members of the Fairlop Heritage Group.
They were presented with a magnificent pen as part of the prizes, which were handmade by Ed Bennett, the son of Len Bennett, a pilot who was stationed at RAF Station Fairlop during the war.
In a blacked out classroom, children listened to an audio of an air raid siren and a bombing raid to empathise what it would be like to experience the Blitz.
The children discussed how scary the sounds were and how they would be worried for friends and family who were not with them. The children used this powerful experience to write diaries of a night in the Blitz.
Here are a few excerpts from some entries:
Dear Diary,
October 7 1940.
Last night was the worst night of the blitz. My brother and I were playing cards when the air raid siren sounded. We grabbed our gas masks and dashed out of the house…
Dear Diary,
I haven't had a peaceful night since the 7 September.
Every time that ear piercing wail starts, it always reminds me of the rubble from Grandma's house….
Dear Diary. It was late last night when I heard the sirens wailing. Weather was cold and the rain started. I was completely damp before I reached the air raid shelter and could not sleep the whole time I was there. I also jumped out of my skin when the first bomb felt like my neighbours house….
All diaries were well written, thoughtfully illustrated with bomb damage, flags, German and British aeroplanes, hand grenades, medals, poppies, RAF roundels, ration books, remembrance candles, searchlight beams, Spitfires, St Pauls Cathedral, Star of Davids and swastikas.
A joint venture between Fairlop Heritage Group and the school with a powerful experience for the pupils.

Hi Everyone,

Bramston here. Miss Houghton is typing for me but I’m doing all the talking. It’s day one of home learning for me. We tried some improper fractions and needless to say it didn’t go well. Miss Houghton realised the lesson wasn’t going well so she tried something a little different.

See if you can solve Brammy’s maths problem.

Brammy has 700g of food left. He eats 50g twice daily. How long will his food last?

Love Bramston xxxx

Tricky Tuesday challenge - What percentage of his time is spent sleeping?

Hi everyone, a cheesy problem for you today.....

I am missing going on lots of walks as I can only go on one a day. I’ve been keeping busy by playing lots of fetch with my tennis balls! I hope to see you all soon.

YES! I got to go to School today and see my Mummy 2.

I am having fun with the children who are trying to get my to show my "paw" trick and "roll over"

It is so good to be back at JB.  Here's my problem of the day -

Finlay bounces the ball for me 25 times every 30 seconds.  How many times does Finn bounce it in 6 minutes?

Our raft building was rather challenging on Friday. It didn’t help that Bramston kept stealing our sticks! We tried hard to make them stable enough to carry a Lego Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore... alas not every raft worked!

We like Brammy to roll over every time we throw the ball. If he rolls over 75% of the time and we throw the ball 28 times, how many times does he roll over?

Today we were busy baking chocolate brownies.

I'm sure you'll agree they look great!

We made clay baskets for our Spring chicks.

Luckily, the Easter Bunny paid us a visit. We had fun hunting for chocolate eggs.

We even found two fresh eggs. Our chickens have been busy.

Have a lovely Spring break!
